Ponytails is an enquiry into the widely recognised and barely researched affinity between girls and horses: the Horse Girl Phenomenon.

Coalesced materials honour the mysteries that reign girls and horses together in strength and utilise the traditional horse motif in a sophisticated contemporary aesthetic that features a register of horses spanning from feral to ceremonial. The cause of the phenomenon is unclear, but it a clear commonality of the horse girl cases that Prendergast has encountered is that horses are a constant and a rock through

the sweeping transitions of girlhood. It seems to them, that to become a horse girl is quite simply, a form of self-love.
